Ranges common problems
What do the error codes that appear on my Range or Wall Oven display panel mean?
A fault code indicates the “Watchdog Circuit” in your Range or Wall Oven has detected a fault or malfunction within one of the components of the appliance. Please make note of the fault code(s) which appear on the display, the specific fault code(s) will ensure your Elite Appliance Technician is well prepared to effectively service your appliance.
My oven does not heat, but the surface burners heat.
• Burnt out Oven Element
A bake, broil or convection element may have failed, typically there are visual signs of a failed element such as blisters or complete breaks in the element itself. To verify this, turn on the interior oven light or use a flashlight to visually inspect any interior oven cavity elements for blisters or even complete breaks. Below is a visual example of a blister that has formed on an electric oven element as it failed. Due to the extremely high voltage within electric Ranges and Wall Ovens, we do not recommend a customer attempt to replace a failed element themselves. Please contact our Office so an Elite Appliance Technician may address the issue for you.
• Self Clean Door Lock Malfunction.
If your electric Range or Wall Oven has a self clean feature, ensure that the self clean door lock in not in the locked position; this can sometimes happen after a customer completes a self clean cycle and can leave the oven door locked preventing a customer from being able to open the door. If you find your door locked, resetting the 240 Volt Breaker that powers the electric Range or Wall Oven can prompt the appliance to cycle the door lock and allow the door to be opened. If the door remains locked after resetting the 240 volt Breaker, please contact our Office to schedule an Elite Appliance Technician to correct the issue.
• Defective oven sensor.
Your Electric Range or Wall Oven in most cases uses an electronic oven sensor located within the oven cavity to communicate it’s interior temperatures with the appliance’s main board. In most cases the main board will display an error code relating to the failed or malfunctioning oven sensor. If you believe the oven sensor in your appliance has failed, please contact our Office to schedule an Elite Appliance Technician to correct the issue.
None of my elements for my electric range or wall oven will heat.
• Poor or no voltage supply to appliance.
Electric Ranges and Wall Ovens operate off a 240 Volt circuit, this required voltage is supplied by your household breaker panel. In order for the heating elements to operate they require between 208 to 240 volts. The main board, sometimes referred to as the clock operates off 120 volts and may still be operating normally with one of the legs in the 240 volt breaker tripped, this can be misleading. Reset the 240 volt breaker in your home electrical service panel and then see if your bake function will operate, if it doesn’t please contact our Office to schedule an Elite Appliance Technician to correct the issue.
• Loose or damaged circuit or connection.
Your Electric Range or Wall Oven has dozens of high and low voltage circuits within it to provide power to the various components and features within the appliance. A burnt, broken or damaged wire connection can prevent some or even all of the functions for the appliance to operate. If you suspect a burnt, broken or damaged wire connection is the cause of your Electric Range or Wall Oven malfunction, please contact our Office to schedule an Elite Appliance Technician to correct the issue.
• Tripped or failure of the oven high limit sensor.
Your Electric Range or Wall Oven has many safety features to ensure safe and effective operation, one of these features is a high limit sensor. This sensor will interrupt one leg of the 240 volt circuit to your oven elements if it has failed and/or tripped open due to an overheating issue within the oven cavity during a heating or self clean cycle. If you believe the oven high limit sensor in your appliance has failed, please contact our Office to schedule an Elite Appliance Technician to correct the issue.
